Can I cheat a tiny bit on this one?
I can and I will!
I know there are so many amazing RPGs out there that deserve more recognition. I have little experience with systems other than D&D but I’ve read about them and listened to people talking with a lot of excitement about them.
For example, let me give a shout out to Nine Dragons and their game Honour RPG. In fact, Honour 2 is under development as we speak. I’ve play tested a little bit of it and the character creation is really deep.
However, I’d like to mention D&D 4th Edition as well, which is going to be my answer for this question(and that’s why I believe I’m cheating). While D&D is the most well known tabletop RPG, its 4th Edition has received a very negative reaction. It was definitely much different than the previous edition, and 5th Edition too, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game.
There are some really good ideas in there but they are overshadowed by the negativity against the system. And I do believe some people that say bad things about it haven’t even tried it. They’re just following the trend.
I urge you to check out the ideas of the bloodied mechanic, the minion monsters, and the points of light, which is the basic idea of 4th Edition’s setting.
And that’s my answer for today’s question. I know I cheated a bit by mentioning D&D but that was something I really wanted to talk about, and I’ll definitely talk about again in the future.
But let me turn the question to you. Let me know about the system you consider awesome but isn’t getting enough attention. I want to get to know more systems and you can help me.
Tomorrow’s question asks about a game that had an impact on you in the last 12 months.
So until then, have fun!
