Unearthed Arcana: Gothic Heroes

On Monday, the D&D team release this month’s Unearthed Arcana. The theme for April is gothic horror and tries to provide additional options that could fit perfectly into Curse of Strahd. The material consists of a new Subrace and two Archetypes.

The new Subrace is called Revenant. It can be used by races with their own Subraces but additional instructions are provided so it can be used by the rest of the races too.

The first Archetype is for the Fighter and its name is Monster Hunter.

As an archetypal Monster Hunter, you are an expert at defeating super natural threats.

This, of course, means Van Helsing, here I come! Also, the use of superiority dice gives some interesting options.

The second Archetype is the Inquisitive and is meant for the Rogue.

As an archetypal Inquisitive, you excel at rooting out secrets and unraveling mysteries.

Choose your favorite detective and go crazy!

Both of the archetypes go from level 3 to level 17. And as always, the material of the Unearthed Arcana articles are probably unstable so be careful on how you use them. Also, if you do use them, make sure you take the survey at the end of the month.

  1. Interesting. I recently bought Curse of Strahd, it seems very cool, has a set of fortune telling cards, and what to say when the fortune teller draws them! Perhaps these archetypes could help further establish the feel of the adventure, if I ever get around to playing it :)!

    1. The Tarokka deck is awesome, indeed! As for the archetypes, the one I liked the most is the Monster Hunter. And the Revenant is a very interesting way to bring a dead character back to life. If I get to run Curse of Strahd, I’m totally using the content from this Unearthed Arcana!
